About Crochet & Knitting

The two crafts have much in common, including materials and processes, but there is also much that is different between the two crafts.

Both crochet & knitting are ways to create a fabric in particular shapes, colors, and designs by fastening loops and strands of yarn together in a line or tube. Patterns must be followed precisely in order to end up with the correct measurements of the textile.

Knitting

When knitting, two straight needles are used to manipulate yarn or thread to create loops. Those loops result in a textile or functional object (like an article of clothing).

Knitting tends to:

    • Take longer to complete
      projects
    • Require more dexterity

Crochet

Crochet uses a single, hooked needle to draw yarn through previous intertwined loops. Those loops make a fabric, or textile.

Crochet tends to be:

  • Easier to learn
  • Faster to complete projects
  • There is a learning curve!
