DNF

I try to finish every book. I really give a good shot at it. But I did not finish Nixon by Laura John. I stopped at 60%. I tried, I really did. But the unbelievable characterizations, the telling not showing, and the trite dialogue just pushed me over the edge.

Bodyguard MM Romance

I wish I could have liked this book because the IDEA of this book had me instantly download it. I love the delicious tension of a brat client and a gruff bodyguard like yes, please. But I could NOT get through it after one particularly telenovela-y interaction. I was just done.

This story has everything:

This story has everything. Cue Stefon’s voice:

• Religious parents that the MC still keeps in his life for some reason
• Emotionally savvy, 6 foot EIGHT bodyguards with tree-trunk thighs
• A near fatal-poisoning murder attempts
• MCs who hate each other for just a few pages of story and then fill out in-depth kink questionnaires and have sex that instantly makes them fall in love with each other
• only to be stymied by their all of a sudden immature emotional reactions that lead to melodramatic angst scenes straight out of a telenovela

I couldn’t. I won’t be reading more of this author, these characters had the emotional maturity of potatoes.
