Boring Themes Are So, Like, Lame

I hate boring slides, and I really loathe the default themes that are available in Google Slides. Sites such as Slides Carnival have a ton of fun and colorful themes. After many years of using sites like that, I started making my own Google Slides Themes because I wanted my slides to look unique.

The Canva ‘Problem’

So, I love Canva, and I use it extensively! But I’ve found that presentations made for Canva don’t work well if you try to import them into Google Slides. They end up importing as a blank theme with slides that have a bunch of images in them.

Lots of Work

That leaves someone with a ton of work to do to make that frame of a theme an actual Google Slides theme. Personally, I think that’s asking a lot from someone who is looking for colorful Google Slides themes to use for their presentation. I’m certainly not looking to do hours more of work on something. That’s why I look for a theme in the first place, so all that work is done.

Colorful Google Slides Themes are so, like, totally awesome!

Ok, ok, the 80s vernacular is a bit cringe, but as a true child of the 80s I love the aesthetic of the retconned, neon lights and funky shapes 80s-core. (Even if we mostly remember that the actual 80s was a lot more brown than funky neon colors. But fun and colorful makes for a much better slides presentation, so that’s what I am offering today.

Free Themes for Google Slides are Invaluable!

I hate boring slides and I really loathe the default slides themes that are available in Google Slides. Years ago I discovered sites such as Slides Carnival and others like it to find eye catching themes that are fun, quirky, colorful and unique. Because I don’t want my slides to look like other slides, I want them to be different.

Theme Websites are Unreliable

However, I have been having trouble with sites like Slides Carnival lately. What happens is that when I download a theme I end up getting a presentation with eye catching slides but the theme itself cannot be imported into my Google slides.

It may be because the theme was created in Canva or something along those lines, but it’s been frustrating for me to try and import a cute theme to use in class and find that it’s not a theme at all, just a collection of slides that I can use if I copy/paste the slides themselves and then edit them.

That’s Not a Google Slides Theme!

That is not a theme. It’s a frame of a theme, but nothing is imported into the theme editor. It’s a blank theme. That doesn’t work for me. I like the themes to be completely done in theme editor so when you make a copy of it and import it into your slide show the work is done. I have done that with the theme I have made for you here.
