Yarn Recap

Posted on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in General, Knitting

Stitches South was excellent. I had a lot of fun, bought some yarn, met some people and had an overall positive experience. I did lose a $100 dollar bill somewhere, which totally sucks but oh well. I need to take pictures to post of all the yarn I bought.

I bought two skeins of Cherry Tree Hill Suri laceweight yarn to make a shawl with in the Rosewood colorway. It’s a gorgeous shade of reddish brown and I can’t wait to make a shawl with it. I am thinking something along the lines of a classic Swallowtail shawl or Luminaria. I can’t decide between the two.

Also snagged was a beautiful ball of Graceful Lace laceweight yarn in the most luxurious purple colorway. It’s 902 yards of bliss and I don’t know what I’ll make with it. Gorgeous.

Couldn’t resist the temptation of two skeins of CTH sock yarn or a new drop spindle and a bit of fiber. I am making progress on the spinning front. I am learning how to draft a lot better than before and I’m already seeing a marked improvement in the thickness of the yarn, in fact my latest singles don’t resemble rope at all.

In non-knitting news I dropped three desktop PCs off at a computer place today along with my external hard drive with the instructions to get all the data off the computers, put the data on my hard drive and do what you will with the hulking dinosaurs. Three massive computers I do not need. I don’t even know if I need the data, but I want to save it. I am excited. With every thing I throw away or discard from my old life, I feel freer and more myself. And that’s indeed a good thing.

I hope tomorrow will be fun at Stitches South! I am excited and hope I can meet some LSG hoars. I have a budget of about $100 to spend. I can easily go over but I am cash strapped lately so I will only be buying things I really, really desperately want.

I took a test this morning and found out that I am a socialist and not just liberal. I like this. This is not a bad thing to me.

Tomorrow after Stitches South we are heading up to the cabin in North Carolina for the night. At Christmas, a tree fell on the roof. It was sad. It has since been fixed and I can’t wait to see it.

Today I got some stuff done and went grocery shopping. Ate well and am way under on points for the day. Weight Watchers is doing good things for me and I never feel deprived. Tomorrow will be busy and involve lots of driving so I am off to bed after I poke around on Facebook some more. Nite, all.

I made my homepage tonight. It’s not much, but I pulled up skills from the recesses of my brain to do it. It had been, erm, years, since I coded anything in vi. I am going to remember everything I once knew, it will just take me a while. I was once pretty excellent, if I do say so myself, at css and html. And some php. I have never taken a programming class but I was pretty good at what I needed to do.

Anyways, it’s up. It doesn’t look like much but it’s a start. Will be made better later. I just wanted to get something up. And I did. WIN.

Stitches South

Posted on Thursday, April 22, 2010 in Knitting

This Saturday I am going to Atlanta to go to Stitches South and meet some Rav/LSG peeps. I am looking forward to this for a number of reasons. Leaving New Jersey meant I was leaving, among other things, a pretty awesome bunch of knitting friends and that sucks. I attended a Stitch and Bitch regularly and I was close by a bunch of Ravelry folk. And I was a short(ish) drive from Webs. And I could drive up to Rhinebeck for the day. Leaving New Jersey was the obvious path for me, but leaving all that behind was a bitter pill to swallow.

But, there is hope. While there is no local knitting group, which sucks,  LSG has a pretty awesome ATL contingent and I am very much looking forward to meeting some of them this weekend. Plus, after the past few months I’ve been through I am treating myself to a yarn splurge! I’ve been on a strict yarn diet since Rhinebeck but I have a budget and I am going to spend it. I want yaaarnnn. And whatever else I see that I need.

Stitches South is being held at the Cobb Galleria and I cannot wait to drive the hour and a half down there. Lavonia is way out of the way from Atlanta, but for yarn, I’ll drive anywhere, apparently. I will try to take my camera and actually remember to take a picture.

In other musings, I want to change the image on this blog but don’t have an image that is the right width. And my Photoshop skills have abandoned me. Sad. I am going to work on it. I want to change the image because I’ve just moved from the NYC area and do not want the Brooklyn Bridge on my blog about my new life. Doesn’t make sense! I need a fibery picture.

Welcome to my new home

Posted on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in General

So this is my new blog. Faeriebell has been my username pretty much all over the  Internet since I got my first Hotmail account in 1996. So, here in the year 2010, I’ve finally gotten official and bought I feel at home already. I’ll be posting whateva the hell I want here, from fibery stuff to daily stuffs or whatever strikes me as cool.

I have just turned a new page in my life, so the start of a new blog is just what I need. While faeriebell is a name I’ve always used, this new domain and everything feels to me like a reclamation and rebirth. So, welcome. I’m faeriebell. A knitter, a mother, and I’ve just come home.
